Welcome

Welcome to the

Energy Information Networks &
Systems Lab

Low-carbon energy systems that are technically reliable, economically sensible,
and secure against intentional cyber attacks will be critical for our future.

Florian Steinke,
Head of the Institute

What could be more rewarding than being able to use in-depth computational methods to support solving the global energy challenge?

Our research and teaching focuses on the following topics of energy management:

  • Energy System Design: The composition of future energy systems and their regulation / tax / market regimes
  • Energy System Operation: Algorithms for the operation of future energy systems w.r.t. economic and technical targets
  • Energy Automation Systems: The hard-/software & communication systems to implement those algorithms

We use tools from distributed control, machine learning, probabilistic models & optimization. On the frontier of digitalization in energy our lab interconnects computer science and energy technology.
